Being that I have a fair-skinned porcelain complexion, I rarely go into tanning beds, spray tan booths, or spend much time outdoors tanning. I tend to burn very easily and unfortunately my sunburn rarely turns into golden bronze tan like it does for others who get sun burnt. Because of this, I am always one of the only women on the beach that sports pasty legs and ghostly white arms.
I heard about Fake Bake original self-tanning lotion from a friend of mine who is self-tanning connoisseur. Her natural complexion is very similar to mine. When I had seen what Fake Bake did for her, I decided to give it a shot myself, and I am so glad I did.
Fake Bake original self-tanning lotion is made from the following ingredients: Deionized Water, Dihydroxyacetone, ethoxydiglycol, Caprylic/Capric Trigluceride, Octyl Palmitate, Propylene Glycol, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Dicaprylyl Maleate, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Erythrulose, Glucosamine, Chondroitin, Glyceryl Stearate, Stearyl Alcohol, PEG-100 Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, PPG-5 Ceteth-10 Phosphate, Aloe Vera, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Xanthan Gum, Polysorbate 80, PVP, Eicosene Copolymer, Dimethicone, Diazolidinyl Urea, Panthenol, Fragrance, Methylparaben, Trisodium Deta, Propylparaben, Red 40 (Cl 16035), Yellow 6 (Cl 15985), Blue 1 (Cl 42090), and, Yellow 5 (Cl 19140). The ingredients in any kind of lotion or self-tanner has always been very important to me. I have extra sensitive skin so I need to make sure I am not putting anything on my skin that can cause rashes or irritation. Fortunately, this self-tanning mixture did not cause any problems for me.
Fake Bake is a self-tanning lotion that can be used on the face and the body. It’s designed for easy goof-proof application and promises to leave no streaks, dark spots, or pale patches. It’s also moisture rich so it provides your skin with the hydration it needs to keep the tan hanging around longer.
First off, Fake Bake smells decent. Unlike many other well-known self-tanning lotion, sprays, and wipes, Fake Bake has a very tropical and fruity smell when it is first applied. The smell does stay on the skin even after it’s rubbed in and thoroughly applied. Fake Bake is also very easy to apply. All you need to do is take a shower before application. Make sure you shave and exfoliate to get rid of any dead skin cells. Once you get out of the shower, completely dry off and do not apply any sort of body lotion or body sprays before the application.
Place the protect-ant gloves (they come with the product) on your hands and squirt a bit of the lotion into the palm of your hands. You then will want apply the self-tanner thoroughly and quickly on your entire body. Make sure each area gets the same amount of self-tanner applied. For areas such as the elbows, hands, knees, face, and toes you will want to use a make-up sponge for application. Once the lotion is thoroughly and evenly applied, simply allow it to dry on your skin for approximately 15 minutes before getting dressed in clothing. As you can see, it is a very simple application process.
Another pro of Fake Bake is that it works in about 4-5 hours. Once you apply the lotion you will notice a great base tan in just a short few hours. To maintain the tan, simply reapply the lotion after your daily morning or even shower. Fake Bake also does not rub off on clothing or on sheets. I have worn white colored clothing and have gone to bed right after applications and have not seen one blotch or stain on my clothes or sheets.
Lastly and most importantly, it gives off a very realistic tan. If applied correctly, you will not be left looking orange. It is most definitely the best self-tanning product I have ever used. It looks wonderful before a day at the beach as it allows you to look like you have just spent hours in the sun even if you have not.
While Fake Bake is awesome in almost every single way, I do have one complaint. If you do not wear the protective gloves that come with the product, the lotion will definitely stain the fingertips, palms, and fist parts of your hands. When it stains, there’s absolutely no way to get rid of the marks except to wait it out. This is really the only downside to this product.
