One of my absolute favorite beach activities is riding the waves on a body board. There’s something about the ocean being in total control that makes it exciting to get on that board and to see where the roaring waves will take you. I would always borrow my little brothers boogie board on my family beach vacations. Eventually he was tired of me hogging the board and decided to get me a bright pink Lucky Bums board for my birthday! I’m not lying when I say it is truly one of the best gifts I have ever received.

The Product:

The Lucky Bums body board is durable and lightweight. It’s made from lightweight EPS core with high density polyethylene slick bottom. This board has rear channels that works with all wave conditions. Whether the waves are roaring out in the ocean or they’re subtle and quiet, you will still have a thrilling time using the Lucky Bums body board. Because the bottom of the board is made from a very unique material, it doesn’t provide much friction which is great for big wave riding. The rear channels always provide excellent performance and control. These channels provide for increased speeds, increased strength and more maneuverability.

Even though I find no need for it (I’m not a professional rider), The Lucky Bums body board provides 60/40 rails which allows for awesome surfing tricks. Of course, there’s also a leash included for the board. The leash is used to wrap around the wrist so that the board does not drift off into the ocean if it ends up being separated from its owner. The size of the board is 42 inches. This is the perfect size for either an adult or a child. It’s spacious enough for those who are larger in size or taller in size.

The Pros:

I have some great things to say about this board. Besides the inexpensive price (34.99 to 49.99 on Amazon) this board is of the best quality. Because it’s made from high density polyethylene, the board is very durable. It does not bend, scratch, or damage very easily. This board has been put through the ringer and thrown around. The seams have never broken, the board has never had a scratch, and the tether has never come unattached from the exterior of the board. It’s supposed to have a lifetime guarantee and even though I haven’t owned it all that long, I can totally see it lasting a number of years.

This board comes in a variety of colors. It comes in bright pink, blue, green, and red. I have the bright pink variety which is vibrant and fits my personality. Because of the brightness, people can find me in the ocean very quickly. The board’s tether also is a huge plus. It wraps comfortably around the wrist and stays on securely. Some boards I’ve used in the past did not come with a tether and would end up getting lost while drifting out to sea.

Because it has rear channels, it’s perfect for any conditions. I have been able to successfully use the Lucky Bums board on days where the waves were intense and also on days where the waves were less than big. It’s definitely a great board for either a beginner or even for someone who has had plenty of experience boarding and wants to use it as a trick board.

The Cons:

I really do not have any major complaints about the Lucky Bums body board. If I had to pick one thing that I really was not all that crazy about it would be that getting on the board can be quite difficult. I believe this is because the up-side of the board is very glossy. Being that it is glossy, it can be a bit slippery and hard to get completely on top of. I tend to fall off quite a bit because of this. Anyhow, it’s not really that big of a complaint as most body boards are a bit slippery.

It also can be difficult to clean. While it has a glossy surface, I find that the sand can be hard to get off of this board if it’s not rinsed off immediately after use. I suggest hosing it off right after you use it so you can bypass having to spend 10 minutes washing it off sand particle by sand particle.

This is one of the only body boards I would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for a new and durable board. It’s perfect for a novice boarder, skilled boarder, and any type of level in-between. I actually like this board so much that I was thinking about buying another one as a backup for friends and family that may not have their own boards.
